Description: This is an introductory evening for men who wish to learn to sing in harmony and to have the chance to be part of an ‘A Cappella’ Barbershop Harmony Chorus.
You are invited to come along for two hours of singing, listening, camaraderie and discovering the delights of men singing in harmony.
If you then decide you'd like to give it a go, this will be followed by a 4-week introductory singing course.
When: New Members Night - Monday 7th April 2025 7pm - 9pm
Four Week Singing Course - Mondays, 14th April to 12th May 2025 (excl Easter Mon) 7pm - 9pm

Who: Any man who loves to sing.
‘A Capella’ means singing without instruments and ‘Barbershop Harmony’ is singing in four-part, tight harmony. For men, this means singing together, in one of four parts: Bass, Baritone, Lead and Tenor.

General Information About Novatones: Novatones Harmony Chorus is Newcastle's premier men's singing group that rehearses and performs, generally in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie area. The group is composed of males, of varying ages and backgrounds, who love to sing in harmony. The group is fortunate to be capably led by a very experienced, encouraging and patient director, who has a wonderful ear for harmony. Novatones Members attend weekly rehearsals, which are both educational and fun. These rehearsals are held at Souths Leagues Club in Merewether, Newcastle. At these rehearsals, we learn new songs from various music types. If you decide to join the group, you will be mixing with a bunch of friendly and helpful guys all united in wanting to sing great music together.
Performances: Novatones regularly performs publicly at places like clubs, pubs, community venues, aged-care facilities, and all sorts of different locations around the Newcastle Area. Leading up to Christmas, we do lots of carolling at local venues.
Competitions: Novatones chorus is part of a national body called Barbershop Harmony Australia. This national group presents opportunities to perform annually in a competition environment with singers from around Australia and overseas. At these competition events, choruses get formal recognition of their singing goals, valuable feedback and development tips.
